She also served as the Chief Human Resources Officer, Chief of Staff, and Deputy Superintendent before her latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcpublicschools.org\/kcps-news\/kcps-news-board-page\/~board\/kcps-news\/post\/dr-bedell-to-depart-dr-collier-named-interim-superintendent\">appointment as interim superintendent<\/a> following the departure of Dr. Mark Bedell.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"One on One with Dr. Jennifer Collier\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SzgKKGQa4s8\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>She has a bachelor\u2019s degree from the University of Kansas and a master\u2019s degree from Avila University, as well as an Educational Specialist in Educational Leadership and doctorate in education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.<\/p>\n<p>In the podcast, Eric Wesson, the managing editor and publisher of The Call, reviews her background and professional career, including her first job as a substitute teacher in the KC Public School District.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Collier talks about the \u201claser focus\u201d on literacy that she brings to the school district, while dealing with kids struggling with homelessness or a lack of stability in housing. While the district has made strides in literacy, she calls this a time to \u201croll up our sleeves and do better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She notes high levels of anxiety and stress throughout society and increasing social-emotional support for staff, teachers, principals, and students. \u201cYou can\u2019t pour from an empty cup,\u201d she explains.<\/p>\n<p>Eric and Dr. Collier talk about the importance of reading and explore the socio-economics of learning, how those differences show up in test scores.
