Swope Health can help!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You are probably seeing messages these days about Open Enrollment, and sometimes it can all be confusing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOpen Enrollment\u201d is a window of time that happens once a year when individuals sign up for health insurance and other benefits, as well as adjust or cancel current plans. It is usually limited to a few weeks, and individuals often have to wait until the next open enrollment period to make changes.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the important Open Enrollment dates:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Individual &amp; Family Affordable Care Act Marketplace plans<\/strong>: Open enrollment is November 1 through January 15. (Affordable Care Act, or ACA, is often referenced as \u201cObamacare\u201d.)\n<ul>\n<li><strong>If you enroll by December 15, your coverage begins on January 1.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>If you enroll between December 16 and January 15, your coverage begins on February 1. <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Medicare<\/strong>: Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) is October 15 to December 7. The Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) for Medicare is around age 65.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Medicaid<\/strong>: People can enroll anytime.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong> <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14498\" src=\"https:\/\/swopehealth.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/navigators-1030x773.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1030\" height=\"773\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>At Swope Health, we have a team of insurance navigators who help guide people through the process of enrolling in Marketplace insurance, Medicaid, and CHIP (Children\u2019s Health Insurance Program).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This service is free and open to everyone. Your information is confidential.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019d like help with enrolling in any of these programs, you have options:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can walk in and request assistance from our navigators at Swope Health Central.<\/li>\n<li>You can call and schedule an appointment for a time that\u2019s convenient \u2013 call (816) 599-5590.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When you come in, please be sure to bring your ID. This can be a Driver\u2019s License, Passport or Permanent Resident\u2019s card. If you have an income, bring one month\u2019s worth of proof of income, such as pay stubs. If you or family members you are enrolling were not born in Missouri or Kansas, please bring a birth certificate as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What can I expect in a plan? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcare.gov\/\">Healthcare.gov website<\/a>, all Marketplace plans cover:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcare.gov\/coverage\/what-marketplace-plans-cover\/\">10 essential health benefits<\/a>, including prescription drugs, emergency services, hospitalization, laboratory services, pregnancy, maternity and newborn care, mental health services, and substance use disorder services.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcare.gov\/coverage\/preventive-care-benefits\/\">Preventive healthcare services<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcare.gov\/preventive-care-adults\/\">adults<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcare.gov\/preventive-care-women\/\">women<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcare.gov\/preventive-care-children\/\">children<\/a>. These services are provided free if they are delivered by a provider or doctor in your insurance plan\u2019s network.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcare.gov\/coverage\/pre-existing-conditions\/\">Coverage for pre-existing conditions<\/a>: once you are enrolled, no insurance plan can reject you, charge you more, or refuse to pay benefits for any condition you had before your coverage started.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What will a plan cost?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your costs will depend on your expected household income for the year. There are options for low-cost, Medicaid and CHIP programs, as well as tax credit options.
