It is also a prime opportunity to offer education on mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Kansas City\u2019s largest community health center and certified community behavioral health center, Swope Health is a cornerstone in local mental health advocacy and service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This month, Swope Health will receive recognition for its role in serving mental health with an award from the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.\u2019s Kansas City Metropolitan Area Graduate Chapters. Swope Health will be honored at an event <strong>at 6 p.m. Monday, May 6, at the University of Central Missouri, Lee\u2019s Summit Campus, 1101 NW Innovation Parkway, Lee\u2019s Summit, MO 64086.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The award is titled \u201cHonoring Swope Health \u2013 A Trauma-Informed Care Program Making a Positive Difference for the Community.\u201d The event is open to college students and public and <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScVKQOnRqTujPmG6ZGYdqYun4uEu9D4o_RP8AdQfs5-UQALBQ\/viewform?pli=1\">registration<\/a> is requested by May 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of the event is to \u201cuse collective efforts to fight stigma and raise awareness related to depression, anxiety, and trauma.\u201d The event also features a panel discussion, with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Penny Rice, addiction therapist<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Breora Page, school-based therapist<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carla Lee, Swope Health\u2019s Youth Behavioral Health Liaison<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And moderator Sylvya Stevenson, founder and president of the National Congress of Black Women-KC<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The event and the award to Swope Health are also commemorated in a proclamation issued by the City of Kansas City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"470\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/swopehealth.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Honor-Swope-Health-May.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36541\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swopehealth.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Honor-Swope-Health-May.png 470w, https:\/\/swopehealth.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Honor-Swope-Health-May-232x300.png 232w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 470px) 100vw, 470px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll of us at Swope Health are so honored by this award,\u201d said Josette Mitchell, executive vice president of Behavioral Health at Swope Health. \u201cThis puts a welcome spotlight on our associates who bring empathy, compassion, open dialog and enormous talent, skills, and training to work with individuals and families in our community. We are proud of this moment to shine.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Swope Health is a champion for mental health services and an advocate for destigmatizing mental illness.
